Unit 2 Length of Discussion Post
Unit 2 Discussion post length will not be graded as part of the rubric this week.
Once you get to the second part, writing the hypothesis, I really am looking at your ability to write the hypothesis.
Focus on that and how you write it. I have put some help links on the blog for you too. I will probably add more too.
Hope this clarifies any confusion as to size of the post this time.

Discussion and Worksheet Week 2
Everyone is doing great! Please make sure you read the other posts and do not repeat the same questions. You can add to what someone else did to get more information.
Keep up the good work.
As to Worksheet 2, I had to revise the grading method on it. If you took it all ready, it will not show a grade- so you have 3 chances to retake it still and now the grade should show. If it does not, email me so I can check what is going on.
Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!

Cell Death and DNA
Apoptosis
This web site looks at what happens when a cell dies. It is called apoptosis. Read bits of this page and you will see what happens with cells that die. The cotton is a good example of cell death from the discussion board.
http://www.cellsalive.com/apop.htm This website is fantastic and one I recommend you bookmark as we talk about cells. It is one of the best web sites available about cells and their life cycle.

Hypothesis
It is very important you start to learn how to write a hypothesis. YOu have to be able to do testing. If it is not testable, it is not a hypothesis.
A hypothesis is an educated guess about how things work.
Most of the time a hypothesis is written like this: "If _____[I do this] _____, then _____[this]_____ will happen." (Fill in the blanks with the appropriate information from your own experiment.)
Your hypothesis should be something that you can actually test, what's called a testable hypothesis. In other words, you need to be able to measure both "what you do" and "what will happen."
This is going to evolve into a bigger project for you as it will have to do with developing hypothesis and research so really work on the writing in the discussion this week. I will be in frequently as I am not traveling or anything this week!!!
See you during the week!

Welcome
Hello to all of my Biology Classes both hybrid and Face to Face.
I am glad to meet all of you and hope to have a wonderful, fun, semester. (Yes, Biology can be fun!).
This blog will be used for updates about the Blackboard/Vista site, announcements that are for BOTH classes and also, you can post to it (appropriate comments and posts) if you wish.
I have used blogs often in my online courses, but this is the first time I will use it for 2 different classes. However, if there is an announcement for one class- I will identify it immediately.
I have put a form for you to complete on this page. I expect that my face to face class will use that only as it is in the course also.
There are a few things we may do this semester.
This will be in both Blackboard courses as well as right here. You do not need to log into Blackboard to see this blog.
You may see some new method to communicate outside class in the next few days here also.
So....watch the blog for information now.
Regards,
Dr. Cercone
1. We may use Twitter in the face to face class as a clicker.
2. We may use Twitter for announcements using the hashtag #HCCBIO
3. We will have a project- both classes- that involves the use of a website and posting material online. It will be mandatory.
I am working on the project now and once I have it ready, I will post information here and in the course. I will also discuss it in class (both classes).
